“Unplugged” Workshop For PLHS Parents & Year 8’s
Did you know?
- 10% of young people are using the internet for more than 9 hours per day
- 11% of 1,200 SA high school students surveyed were found to have Pathological Technology Use
- By age 15, half of all young people have participated in some type of gambling
- 54% of games on Facebook include gambling themes
- Five out of 22 popular video games reviewed met the criteria for gambling, including the option to cash out winnings
The “Unplugged” workshop helps young people aged 10-18 and parents identify links between problematic gaming and gambling behaviours and develop practical strategies to support healthier gaming and internet use – it is free of charge, valued by participants and backed by Australian research.
PLHS has arranged two “Unplugged” workshops in Week 3. The first is a parent session on Thursday May 19th, from 5-7pm in the PLHS Staff Room. Parents can register their interest directly with Emma (contact details below). Please be reminded that masks are still mandatory in our school.
The following day, we will run a second session for our Year 8 students.
The “Unplugged” initiative is facilitated by Uniting Care Wesley Bowen – they have been funded by the Office for Problem Gambling to facilitate these workshop to our school community at no cost.
CONTACT: Social Worker Emma Volaris on 0475-957-111 or at unplugged@ucwb.org.au to register
