Ruby & Ebony Join 2022 Youth Environment Council
The Youth Environment Council of South Australia (YEC) provides young people with a voice in key environmental issues facing SA, and gives them opportunities to take action to achieve a more environmentally sustainable future for our state. We are delighted to announce that PLHS students Ruby Gamlin (Year 8) and Ebony Plane (Year 11) were successful applicants to the YEC for 2022.
Up to 60 students from different schools across South Australia, (including the Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, the Riverland, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Limestone Coast, as well as metropolitan Adelaide) attended their first forum at Belair National Park on Thursday April 14th. Follow-up activities will occur throughout the year, including YEC camps, workshops and forums, all with a focus on environmental and sustainability issues.
In particular, students will:
- develop leadership, team building and public speaking skills at camps, workshops and forums
- take action for the environment to make a difference
- share their views and actions with government
Congratulations to Ruby, Ebony and their families on this wonderful achievement. This is a fabulous opportunity for our students to work with like-minded peers across the state for better outcomes for our environment. The SRC also look forward to working with both Ruby and Ebony in their relevant projects and actions as part of their YEC commitment.
