PLHS Recognises National Close the Gap Day

National Close the Gap Day was recognised and supported at PLHS today by building awareness of the topic through Dharna Group conversations. Many of the targets outlined in the annual Close the Gap Report are still not being met; accordingly, the campaign continues to advocate for improved health, education and employment outcomes for First Nations people.

Good health and fitness were promoted during lunchtime today, with an All Sports competition run in the Gym involving dozens of energetic staff and students. Meanwhile, outside the Gym, West Coast Community & Youth Services provided their very popular smoothie bike and giant (mental health focused) Jenga. Further, Headspace and Country & Outback Health set up an interactive stall – where a collaborative art piece was created using students’ painted hands – and fresh fruit, kindly donated by Coles Port Lincoln, was made available to all students.

We thank our community partners for their positive involvement and support for our National Close the Gap Day initiatives. Together, through education, we can move towards closing the gap.
