“National Close the Gap Day” Observed at PLHS
The third Thursday in March each year in Australia is National Close the Gap Day; this important event was recognised at Port Lincoln High School in a number of ways earlier today.
Conversations were held with students about the Closing the Gap themes and targets; this was achieved through Dharna Group discussions, roaming chatterbox questions (thanks to our newly elected SRC reps), a lunchtime showing of the documentary “That Sugar Film” and a staff versus student basketball game. Each of these activities brought people together to share information and become better informed.
Education is the key in moving forward to become a nation in which equality exists for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in terms of schooling, health and life expectancy.
~ Mrs Nicole Cunningham (Aboriginal Education Teacher)
