Governing Council Community Voice – May 11

Hi all and welcome back to Term 2. Governing Council met on Wednesday May 11^th and discussed the following:

• We applauded the upgrades to the school’s basketball courts which provide an attractive and durable playing surface that has reduced noise and improved safety for students; they are certainly getting a workout!
• Although COVID-19 continues to impact students and staff, the school’s Senior Drama Production has proceeded with restricted audiences enjoying the performances.
• NAPLAN testing for 325 students has been successfully completed and families have taken the opportunity to meet with subject teachers to discuss their children’s progress.
• The one-year anniversary of the signing of the sister school agreement with Muroto High School (Japan) was celebrated with the symbolic planting of a cherry tree and the unveiling of signage displaying our sister school logo.
• Work continues on the upgrade of the Technology Centre and the school is looking to the future to rationalise learning spaces and demolish outdated prefabricated classrooms.
• The new gardens surrounding the Specialist Building and Year 7 classrooms have established well, with planning for greening other areas of the school in hand.

Our meeting finished with lively discussion and anticipation for Port Lincoln High School’s upcoming centenary celebrations in 2023. We invite and welcome you, your friends and indeed anyone who has had or has an interest or association with the school, to come to a centenary planning meeting – it is scheduled for Wednesday May 25^th from 6:30pm in the school’s new Specialist Building (access from car park at top of Ruskin Road) and will be chaired by PLHS Principal Mr. Todd George. Intentions to attend can be forwarded to Ms. Creena Scholz in the PLHS Front Office by phoning 8683-6000 or emailing creena.scholz503@schools.sa.edu.au. This is a fabulous opportunity to join with others to plan and celebrate the outstanding PLHS contribution to students and community over the course of one hundred years, and to acknowledge the ongoing importance of a well-resourced and vibrant public schooling sector.
