PLHS Crew Undertaking Future Sport Leaders Program

Last week we received the following message from Georgina Shirley, Connected & Active Communities Project Officer with the City of Port Lincoln:

“I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the local students participating in the Future Sport Leaders Program that the City of Port Lincoln is piloting this year. From Port Lincoln High School, we have (pictured L-R) Ciara Calgaret, Rylee Chatfield, Kai Cunningham, Matilda Packer and Kiara Tonkin.

We are now approaching the end of the program, and throughout it these students have consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment, enthusiasm and a willingness to challenge themselves. They have invested significant time and effort into developing their leadership skills and expanding their knowledge of the sport and recreation industry, all while managing the demands of school, their usual sporting commitments and in some cases, casual jobs after school. Their dedication has been evident throughout the program, and they continue to represent their schools and communities with pride.

As we approach the pinnacle of the program, the students will be travelling to Adelaide in the September/October school holidays for an exciting and rewarding experience. The trip will include an overnight stay at AFL Max, as well as a visit to the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) and the headquarters of the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).

Students will also be involved in SASI’s “Discovering Greatness Program”, which includes:

• a tour of the SASI facilities
• opportunities to meet key staff
• exploration of the high-performance environments within the building
• participation in SASI Talent Identification testing

In addition, ORSR will be hosting the launch of the “Growing for Gold Program” on the same day. This major event is expected to include a range of ‘come and try’ activities at the Athletics Stadium. There may also be opportunities for our Future Sport Leaders participants to assist with the delivery of the event, allowing them to further develop their leadership and event management skills.

Please take a moment to congratulate your students on going the extra mile for their futures and for our sporting community. Their commitment to personal growth, leadership, and community engagement is something they should be incredibly proud of.”
