Japanese Students Visit OzAsia Festival

Year 10 Japanese students from PLHS and Navigator College recently attended the OzAsia Festival and Moon Lantern Trail in Adelaide. They enjoyed a range of cultural and language experiences across a three-day excursion staying at the Warradale Urban Camp.

As well as attending the festival, students were given a tour of the Himeji Japanese Garden and Adelaide University, including a presentation about options for continuing their language studies in the future. They participated in a taiko drumming workshop, Japanese-focused activities at the Art Gallery, Botanical Gardens and Chinatown, and viewed a kendo training session at UniSA.

A highlight of the trip was sampling a wide range of Japanese food including beautifully presented obento boxes at Sato Japanese Restaurant, and meals at Wasai Japanese Kitchen, Katsumoto Café and Sushi Train. All students were very adventurous sampling new dishes they hadn’t tried before. We travelled everywhere by public transport and by the end of the trip the students became very confident in using their Metro cards and catching trains, buses and trams.

The students from PLHS were fantastic ambassadors for our school and embraced all experiences with a positive, enquiring attitude and open minds.
