Bell Shakespeare Players Return for Triple Treat

PLHS has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the acclaimed Sydney-based Bell Shakespeare national theatre company. Yesterday, another trio of highly talented ‘players’ – Ari, Amos and Sophie – performed a series of dynamic and engaging hour-long productions, each tailored to different age groups and interests.

This was the first time that we had been treated to three separate shows. First up, our Year 7s were treated to an introduction to Shakespeare through The Wonderful World of Will, featuring a crowd-pleasing guest appearance from Mr. Tristan Rowsell as Queen Gertrude. Then our Year 10 English and Drama students engaged with the angsty Such Sweet Sorrow, an adapted version of the classic Romeo & Juliet. Finally, our Year 11 English and Year 9 Pantomime classes enjoyed the surprisingly humorous version of Macbeth: The Rehearsal. Our Senior Drama students attended each of the three shows, with all students from Years 7-12 displaying excellent audience skills and engagement levels.

We sincerely thank Ari, Amos and Sophie for their wonderful energy, professionalism and expertise in making 500-year-old stories witty, poignant and relevant to teenagers. A huge thank you also to Mrs. Helen Marks, not just for her organisation of yesterday’s event, but also for her ongoing efforts to maintain this valuable connection with Bell Shakespeare.
