World Cup Fever at Tumby 5-a-Side Carnival

On Tuesday June 23rd, an eager crew of Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Tumby Bay to compete in the annual 5-a-Side Soccer Carnival. We entered two boys’ teams and one girls’ team into this year’s event, which obviously coincided with the 2026 World Cup in North America.

An honourable mention goes to our first boys’ team consisting of Brandyn Spriggs, Kai Liffner, Kai Cunningham, Nixon McKie, Balin Mantle and goalie Jackson Murphy; they earned a place in the day’s grand final, eventually finishing runners-up. Our second boys’ team finished in fifth position, with Solomon Carter making his debut alongside experienced players Joshua van Riet, Dominic Gray, Kaleb Kennedy and Kingston Lang.

Year 11 student Kiara Workman kindly offered her time to coach and umpire our girls’ team. Congratulations to goalie Skyler Little, Willoh Brown, Elsa Burgar, Lucy Hatzimanolis, Asha Retsas and Indie Hollamby, who combined well as a team under Kiara’s tutelage to come third overall in the girls comp.

Many thanks to Mr. Brett Cochrane for his invaluable assistance on the day as both our all-day umpire and bus driver. Our Tumby Bay hosts provided brilliant weather and opened their canteen especially for our event. I was very proud at the manner in which our students represented PLHS and demonstrated our school values of respect, responsibility and inclusivity throughout an enjoyable day.
