Room 21 Crew Hosts Successful Café

Earlier today, our Room 21 crew proudly hosted our very own café! Throughout this term, the students have been exploring the concept of ‘Paddock to Plate’, learning about where food comes from, how it is produced, and how cafés operate.

As part of this learning, we worked closely alongside our SSO Mitch, who previously owned and operated a café. Mitch shared his barista knowledge and helped students develop their café and customer service skills during our regular Thursday practice sessions.

We also enjoyed an excursion to the Boston Bay Diner, where students experienced a real café environment. This visit inspired many of the ideas for our own café, including our menu, live music, and student artwork for sale.

The café was a wonderful example of our Crew values in action. Every student played an important role and worked together as a team to prepare food and drinks, welcome customers, serve tables, entertain guests, and create a warm and inclusive environment. Students supported one another, celebrated each other’s strengths, and demonstrated that everyone has something valuable to contribute. It was fantastic to see such strong teamwork and inclusion throughout the event.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students. Your encouragement helped make the café a memorable and rewarding learning experience. We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved together. The café was a great success, and we hope to open it again next term so that even more people can enjoy the experience!

* A shout-out to Year 12 students Mylee Bilney and Elke Thomas – in true crew spirit, they answered the call for barista experience with two of the Room 21 students absent today; onya, girls!
