On Tuesday March 24th, the annual Western Areas Secondary Schools Athletics Carnival (WASSAC) was held at Ravendale Oval here in Port Lincoln, hosted by Navigator College. The event brought together teams from across the Eyre Peninsula, all competing in a highly skilled and spirited athletics competition for the coveted shield.
Port Lincoln High School students excelled not only in their athletic performances but also in their sportsmanship and crew culture, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Our school enjoyed tremendous success at this year’s carnival, breaking a nineteen-year drought to claim the overall championship shield. In addition, PLHS was awarded the handicap shield and secured the U13, U14, U15, and U16 combined age group trophies. Our relay teams also performed exceptionally, winning four out of six available 4x100m age group pennants.
Special mentions must be made of Ivy Rammers (Year 7) and Sophie Gray (Year 9), who were named age group champions in recognition of their outstanding individual efforts.
Several records were also broken on the day by our athletes, further highlighting individual excellence within our team:
- Ivy Rammers – 13 Girls High Jump: 150cm (previous record: 143cm)
- Ivy Rammers – 13 Girls Triple Jump: Tied previous record
- Harper Coleman – 13 Girls 200m: New record
- Chelsea Hore – 14 Girls Hurdles: New record
We extend our sincere thanks to Navigator College for their excellent organisation and management of the event. It was a fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed by all participants.
Congratulations to all students and staff involved on an outstanding achievement.
