Governing Council Community Voice (August)

Some of the highlights from last week’s Governing Council included:

  • We at PLHS are working on building connections with feeder primary schools through events like Reconciliation Week, Culture & Languages Day and assemblies; we’re also gathering data on school transitions and parent choices
  • Mark your calendars for two student free days (dedicated to staff professional development on the South Australian Curriculum) on December 11/12; also, Friday September 5 will be a school closure day (day of local significance)
  • Our staffing profile is looking great for 2026!
  • New couches have arrived in the study space and are a hit!
  • University presentations are happening, along with sessions on SATAC application processes
  • We’re raising funds for Diabetes Australia in Week 8 with a bake sale and a blue-themed casual clothes day
  • Another casual clothes day is planned for August 15 for Bullying No Way, with headspace Port Lincoln visiting, supported by Dharna/Crew
  • The Old Scholars’ Association launch event is on August 15 at the Port Lincoln Hotel
  • We’re trialling new assembly formats for the three Channels (7/8, 9/10, 11/12) which include music and performances
  • Our presence at this year’s Port Lincoln Show featured several school bands, an Aquaculture display and an Old Scholars’ Association information stand
  • Subject selections are commencing for 2026
  • We’re welcoming four Muroto High School students on August 27/28
