Earlier this week, a combined group of students at our main site and at the TLC joined a Zoom presentation and workshop conducted by the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE). With campuses across Australia as well as two cities in the USA, the AIE’s focus is on specialist game and visual effects education; they are continuing to diversify their courses to include more film-making. Some of our former students have gone on to study at the AIE after completing their schooling at PLHS.
After a brief presentation about the AIE and possible study pathways, our students were treated to a design workshop guided by an AIE instructor; Tuesday’s workshop focus was on 3D design using a program called Autodesk Maya. The students were fantastic at developing their skills and helping each other when needed. It was warming to see our senior students assisting the middle school students and even more pleasing to see this confidently and respectfully reciprocated.
On August 31st, the group will be treated to another workshop from the AIE where they will create a basic computer game using the Unity program. The students are really looking forward to it!
