2020 Welcome Letter from PLHS Principal

Dear PLHS Parents and Caregivers,

I would like to welcome your family to the 2020 school year. The first day for students begins at 8:40am on Tuesday January 28th with a whole school assembly in the Gymnasium. Staff will be in the school yard before this time to direct students to the correct place.

This year brings a range of changes and some new ways of operating. Some of these include a revamped timetable, including a dedicated pastoral care session each morning. This 10-minute check-in with teachers starts at 8:40am with an extended session lasting 40 minutes on Wednesdays. The school day concludes at 3:10pm four days of the week with an early dismissal for students at 2:40pm on Wednesdays. School buses will run on their normal schedule and student supervision will be provided on Wednesdays from 2:40pm until 3:30pm in the Resource Centre for any families who require this service.

The PLHS Redevelopment is on track to move into the demolition phase from August this year, with the completion date planned for December 2021. This $15 million building project will increase our student capacity to 1,000 in preparation for Year 7 students moving onto the high school site in January 2022.

Positive communication between the school and home is integral to student success; we offer a variety of means to achieve this. SEQTA is our main means of electronic communication and we encourage all students and families to utilise SEQTA Learn (student portal) and SEQTA Engage (parent portal) to communicate with staff. Information sessions will be available for families within the first few weeks to assist those who require it. In addition to this, we use a text message service to help families and the school to manage student absences; this system is also used to deliver bulk messages regarding important events and information relevant to our families. For those of you who use Facebook, please check out the PLHS page and information is also regularly uploaded onto our school website at www.plhs.sa.edu.au . The Front Office can be contacted by phoning 86836000 or in person from 8:15am – 4:15pm Monday to Friday.

The annual parent Open Days will again run in the week leading up to the start of school. These are scheduled for Tuesday January 21st and Wednesday January 22nd from 9am – 3:30pm on the Stamford Floor in our STEM Centre. A range of services are available to families during these days including student stationery sales, school uniform purchases, SEQTA logins, School Card applications, student timetable information, laptop purchases and an opportunity to pay school fees. Please utilise the staff car park off Ruskin Road – there will be signage to direct you to the Stamford Floor.

In summary:

  • School commences at 8:40am on Tuesday January 28th
  • Open Days are on Tuesday January 21st and Wednesday January 22nd on the Stamford Floor
  • The school day starts each morning at 8:40am and concludes at 3:10pm four days per week and 2:40pm on Wednesdays
  • SEQTA is the preferred method of communication between staff and families and is supported by a range of other options including phoning 86836000.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with the relevant person.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Todd George (PLHS Principal)
