In Week 8, a group of ten Year 9 girls travelled to Adelaide to participate in a three-day STEM conference for female students, delivered by Flinders University as part of their STEM Enrichment Academy.
Our girls participated in a range of engaging hands-on STEM workshops, role model talks by various influential women in science (including the 2024 Young South Australian of the Year Tiahni Adamson and group favourite, astrophysicist Dr. Tania Barone), round-table mentorship discussions with female scientists, and industry immersion tours.
The workshops allowed our students to perform and explore with hands-on experiments in green chemistry (making sustainable water bottles and soap formations), electrochemistry (redox reaction jewellery), physics, cybersecurity, robotics and engineering at the Flinders University campus and Tonsley Innovation District.
The conference delivered a strong message for our young scientists of being brave and embracing curiosity to launch into their next challenge with confidence.
