To celebrate World Teachers’ Day on October 25th, Educators SA hosted an awards ceremony in Adelaide last Friday night. More than seventy awards were presented to outstanding educators who were nominated by their peers as leaders in their profession. PLHS Arts staff Ms Wanda Jarvis and Ms Jenny Silver were invited to attend in recognition of Wanda’s nomination in the Minister’s Arts Education Awards (secondary schools category) – we are delighted to announce that Wanda won!
Wanda’s award acknowledged “the incredible work she is doing with Aboriginal students at Port Lincoln High School, including creating a wealth of exhibition and entrepreneurial opportunities for students and using visual art to markedly increase attendance, attainment and engagement”. Aside from a handsome trophy and certificate, Wanda received $5,000 to be used for professional development over the next year.
