Earlier today, a whole school assembly was staged in the PLHS Gymnasium to acknowledge the outstanding Term 1 efforts and achievements of many students.
The ceremony was conducted by Deputy Principal Mrs. Lesley Warren and opened with an Acknowledgement of Country from SRC reps Seth Kayser (Year 11) and Toby Harris (Year 7). Inspired by an Eleanor Roosevelt quote, PLHS Principal Mr. Todd George provided a thoughtful address to the students about the fundamental differences between great minds, average minds and small minds.
Principal Student Leader Denise Sadiwa eloquently delivered an SRC update, mainly addressing the importance of student voice – her report concluded with the wonderful news that two PLHS students have been selected as Rural Youth Ambassadors for 2023; congratulations to Prapti Pai and Seth Kayser on this outstanding recognition.
Based on the following grade point average criteria, Academic Award certificates were announced and presented by the six Year Level Managers. Congratulations to all of today’s recipients.
ACADEMIC AWARDS:
A grade point average (GPA) is calculated for each student of the school. A GPA score of 4 indicates an A grade for each subject. There are two categories of Academic Awards:
- Academic Excellence awards recognise students who have achieved a GPA of more than 3.5 (with no D or E grades) across all of their Term 1 subjects
- Meritorious Effort awards recognise students who have achieved a GPA of at least 3 (with no D or E grades) across all of their Term 1 subjects
