Happy Indonesian Independence Day!
Indonesian Independence Day is celebrated on the 17th of August each year – to honour the occasion, our Year 8 Indo class participated in many activities.
We spent the week learning about the Indonesian coat-of-arms and its meaning, the activities/games that Indonesian children do on the day and in small groups, made some penjors.
Penjors are decorative bamboo poles used in celebrations and are fondly referred to as “Balinese Christmas trees”. The students finished the day sharing an Indonesian snack of nasi putih, kecap manis and krupuk; it was lots of fun.
