Room 22 Artists Create Favourite Food Installations

Our Room 22 students began their term in Art by exploring the theme of texture. They completed frottages (rubbings) and photographed textured surfaces which then led us to the topic of food (and the students’ favourite things to eat). They drew their food using an aerial or “fly’s eye” view and extended these designs onto real plates supplied by Mrs. Michelle Williams, who came and helped us for a lesson.

The food was firstly painted, and then some sections were modelled in three dimensions using modelling clay and paper packaging. The students arranged their final artwork into a table setting installation for tonight’s Open Night – Mr. Thomas came in to snap the happy group at work.

The students have suggested making real versions of their dishes next! Pancakes might be an easier alternative.
