Dear Parents, Caregivers and Independent Students,
The Material and Services Charge is established each year in consultation with your elected parent representatives who form the Port Lincoln High School Governing Council. The Charge is legally recoverable and covers many of the costs associated with your child’s education during the school year.
The Materials and Services Charge along with Government funding provides for a comprehensive curriculum and the many programs and experiences that students achieve through their secondary education.
The Charge relates to the materials which are provided for each student and their access to information technology, machinery and equipment for their studies as well as curriculum supplies and services.
The school continues to grow its curriculum capacity for student learning and budgets a significant sum of money to ensure that all students have access to quality teaching and modern education.
This school and Governing Council is recommending an annual charge of $500.00 per enrolled full-time Years 7 to 12 student for 2025. The Department for Education has endorsed this recommendation.
The South Australian Government also continues its commitment for 2025 to support families by providing an automatic $200.00 subsidy for each 2025 full-time student enrolled in a public school who aren’t eligible for School Card.
This means families will pay $300.00 per child for their Material and Services Charge for 2025 unless eligible for school card. This will be the fourth year that Materials and Services cost to PLHS families has stayed the same to adjust for cost-of-living pressures.
Governing Council asks that parents, caregivers, and independent students consider the attached 2025 Schools Materials and Services Charges Notice recently verified by the Department for Education.
Governing Council welcomes feedback from parents, caregivers, and independent students about these charges. Feedback can be provided by:
- Attending the Governing Council Meeting scheduled for October 23rd from 6:30pm in the PLHS Specialist Building (access via Ruskin Road)
OR
- Expressing your views in writing to the Chairperson of the Governing Council via email Rachael.Boyce774@schools.sa.edu.au
OR
- Handwritten: Addressed to Chairperson PLHS Governing Council and delivered to the school via Rachael Boyce in the Front Office
OR
- Post: Addressed to Chairperson PLHS Governing Council, PO Box 30A Port Lincoln SA 5606
Correspondence received by 5pm on October 23rd will be tabled at the Governing Council Meeting for consideration before the final approval of the M&S Charge is made at this meeting.
Information detailing how and when to make payment of the 2025 Materials and Services Charge, will be published prior to the start of next year.
The school confidentially provides payment options to help families meet these obligations and will happily assist those who wish to apply for School Card.
It is important to apply for School Card as soon as possible to avoid delays in approvals. A new approval must be achieved for each new year.
Kind regards,
Brian Gabb (Chairperson, PLHS Governing Council)
