Content:

This course focuses on traditional furniture construction techniques along with basic carcase construction procedures.

Throughout this subject, students will deepen there understanding and skills in design process, investigating design features and characteristic of material functionality, as well as using a range of hand tools and fixed machinery to develop products and design solutions.

They will also have the opportunity to immerse there learning into the CNC machinery such as 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC milling machine, along with CAD applications such as Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Inventor.

Students will develop their ability to follow a procedure, and will also have opportunities to construct products of their own design using the design process including; developing a brief, generating ideas through research, and refining designs through sketches.

Safe work practices will be explained and emphasised. Students will be required to complete an online machine safety competency via OnGuard, before operating any workshop equipment or machinery.

Some costs may apply to pay for materials used.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Practical: 70%
  • Theory: 30%
