Content:

For students who wish to further their development in particular sport skills and knowledge of physical activity, they are offered the choice of selecting the subject Year 9 Health & Physical Education (HPE) – Sport. The learning within this subject focuses on two Year 9 curriculum areas in Movement and Physical Activity and Personal, Social and Community Health. Through this content, students develop an understanding of how our body moves, learning through movement, understanding movement, being safe, healthy and active, communicating and interacting for health and wellbeing and finally contributing to healthy and active communities.

Within this topic students engage in a multitude of sports-related topics that are negotiated between both student and teacher. These topics are inter-related to the Physical Education concepts of both Exercise Physiology and Physical Fitness, with analytical skills being further developed by participating in and evaluating performance. Students work within a variety of sport categories ranging from Invasion, Fielding and Striking, Target, Net and Wall, Aquatics and Rhythm and Movement to continue developing fundamental skills associated with all sports. Students also work with a variety of theory components, heavily focused on the health benefits of Physical Activity and the promotion of Life-Long engagement in Physical Activity.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
