Content:

Students research, analyse, explore and experiment with media and techniques, to resolve and produce practical work. They use visual thinking and investigation to develop ideas and concepts, refine technical skills, and produce imaginative solutions. Students learn to communicate personal ideas, beliefs, values, thoughts, feelings, concepts and opinions, and provide observations of their lived or imagined experiences in visual form.

  • Assessment Type 1: Folio (40%) Experiments and exploration of media, techniques and themes documents the  students’ visual learning, in support of their one or two works of art. (total of 15 pages)
  • Assessment Type 2: Practical (30%) Artworks based on a personal or chosen theme are created from a choice of media and techniques that connects to the visual thinking and learning documented in the folio. The practical consists of two parts, art work and the practitioner’s statement. Students produce one or two practicals, one of which must be a resolved work.  Students prepare a 250-word written practitioner’s statement for one resolved practical.
  • Assessment Type 3: Visual Study (30%) An exploration of, and/or experimentation with a style, an idea, a concept, media, materials, methods, techniques, and/or technologies. Students base their exploration and/or experimentation on analysis of the work of other practitioners, individual research, and the development of visual thinking and/or technical skills. They present the findings of their Visual Study as well as their conclusions and insights. (Eight to twelve A3 pages (or equivalent) of practical study; a digital recording should be between 3 and 4 minutes.)
