Content:
In Stage 1 Food & Hospitality, students examine some of the factors that influence people’s food choices and the health implications of those choices. They also gain an understanding of the diversity of the food and hospitality industry in meeting the needs of local people and visitors.
Students work independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals. They develop skills and safe work practices in the preparation, storage and handling of food, complying with current health and safety legislation. Students investigate and debate contemporary food and hospitality issues and current management practices. Technological influences and advancements are examined and evaluated.
Students may be required to participate in activities outside school hours, both within the school and in the wider community.
Incidental Costs: $15 (students may purchase special recipe ingredients and/or participate in catering events)
Assessment:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards as outlined in the Subject Outline. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. The five key areas of performance being assessed include investigation, problem solving, practical application, collaboration and reflection.
