Content:
English focuses on studies of literature and language. Texts include contemporary and classical literature such as poetry, drama and novels, as well as every day and media texts. There is a focus on adolescent literature, especially Australian texts. Students are encouraged to read widely across a wide range of texts and to compose a range of their own creative work.
Language studies include consolidating skills in writing, reading and viewing, listening and speaking. Students are given opportunities to develop their oral language skills both formally and informally. At Year 9, the focus is on conjunctions and utilising nominalisation techniques to develop vocabulary in written texts.
In addition at Year 9, the media text focus is on the auditory medium and the application of information and digital technologies to develop and publish work.
Assessment:
(AC) Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
