PLHS Claims Another EP Interschool Gymkhana

On Monday May 3rd, 38 students in Years 5 to 12 from across the region competed in the 2021 Eyre Peninsula Interschool Gymkhana. This was the eighth year that this event has been held (with a break last year due to COVID-19). Although there was the odd spot of rain, the weather was perfect for riders to participate in hacking, games and show-jumping.

Competing for PLHS at the 2021 Gymkhana were Hayley and Ashleigh Carpenter, Trey Letton, Pearl Dessart, Zoe Pomeroy, Shadya Kerley, Scarlette Law and Sarah Gibson. Other students travelled from across the EP to represent Whyalla High School, Tumby Bay Area School, Ceduna Area School, Cummins Area School, Cleve Area School, Port Lincoln Primary School, St. Joseph’s School, Navigator College, Kimba Area School and Wudinna Area School.

Congratulations to all who competed in these events; some for the first time. Most riders succeeded in winning ribbons and there was a high degree of skill exhibited, notwithstanding a few undignified dismounts.

Congratulations to the overall winners, Port Lincoln Primary School in the junior division and Port Lincoln High School in the seniors. Runners-up were Wudinna AS (juniors) and Cummins AS (seniors). In the handicap section, the winners were Cleve AS.

Special awards were given to students who accumulated the most overall points on the day across all three disciplines. This year’s primary and secondary school champion riders were Hayley Fuss (Port Lincoln Primary School) and our own Hayley Carpenter (PLHS).

A huge thank you to the organisers, sponsors and judges for a well-run event. All participants and spectators thoroughly enjoyed the day.
