On a bright and sunny day at Ravendale, Port Lincoln High School were undefeated at the annual Open Mixed Hockey Carnival; we came, we saw and we had a really good time! It was a marvellous day of hockey with many spectators in attendance to support the three teams. In their final year of school hockey, PLHS Captain Harry Stockham and Coach R’bka Ford led the team to victory against both Navigator College and St. Joseph’s School.

Our first game was a bit one-sided against the brave and hardy Navigators side; although they didn’t have the strength to match us, they are improving each year. St. Joseph’s played a similar game against Navigators setting up an almighty contest for the final game of the day – PLHS vs. SJS.

A very handy passage of play by St. Joseph’s saw them score the first goal. PLHS responded however, through a fancy back stick goal from Jesse Ambrose, his signature shot. One-all was an exciting score line; due to goal point average, we just had to hold on for a draw to claim the overall win. Displaying true grit, our team played for the victory – they ultimately succeeded, with a second match-winning goal coming from a whole team effort.

Special mentions must go Mim Stevens for being such a good sport and providing an extra number for Navigators, and Connor Stutzer for his outstanding efforts in goals. If this Team Manager listed every special effort, she would be here for days; our entire team was awesome!

A special thank you to the Port Lincoln Hockey Association for their assistance in staging another successful carnival; without the ongoing support of community groups such as this, wonderful days like today simply do not happen.
