On Tuesday February 19th, our Year 10, 11 and 12 English students were fortunate to receive a visit from the renowned South Australian poet, Geoff Goodfellow – a frequent guest to Port Lincoln High School, on this occasion Geoff delivered five compelling poetry performances.
Geoff Goodfellow has published a number of poetry collections over the last three decades and his raw story-telling ability never fails to capture our students’ attention. His works cover a range of profound life experiences and provide an insight into various social issues including domestic violence, ice addiction, war and unemployment.
Regarded as a working class poet, Geoff’s work is used by many schools; in fact, he is also listed on the senior English syllabus in the states of Tasmania and New South Wales. Our students will explore and deconstruct a selection of his works in their respective English classes throughout this term.
Opportunities for our students to attend live performances and to meet writers and performers are rare. Accordingly, we are particularly grateful that Geoff made time available in his busy national and international touring schedule to visit Port Lincoln High School.
