Year 9/10 Crews Go “All In” for Reconciliation Week

YEAR 9: Our entire Year 9 crew met on the Oval to celebrate the “ALL IN” them by creating a space for students to come together and enjoy the morning.

Students created and listened to a playlist of Indigenous musical artists which created a great vibe. Spikeball was played, art was created and a sausage sizzle was enjoyed by students and staff alike. The resulting artwork will eventually form part of a display showcasing our students’ involvement with PLHS throughout the year.

YEAR 10: Meanwhile, our Year 10 Dharna Crews converged on the Specialist Building. Once assembled, students and staff watched a BTN segment dedicated to the history of National Reconciliation Week and the “ALL IN” theme of this year’s celebration; the clip was centred around the Nunga Tag carnival in Adelaide and featured several young Aboriginal students from the West Coast. All in attendance were then given an opportunity to write a short reflection which included links to our three School Values and a personal pledge for the future.

A special Reconciliation Week-themed morning tea was then enjoyed, with students invited to craft an Aboriginal flag pancake using pre-made red, yellow and black batter, and try a range of bush tucker jams on scones – whilst the quandong and lemon myrtle flavours were very popular, the more adventurous savoured the green ant jam.

A colouring-in competition was also attempted, with a prize on offer for the best completed entry.
