PLHS Students Attend Peace Pole Ceremony
Last Friday, three PLHS students – Prapti Pai, Sophie Lang and Rhy Kayser – assisted in the unveiling of a second Rotary Peace Pole within the City of Port Lincoln; the first is located in Puckridge Park. On this occasion, the ceremony was conducted on the foreshore (near the start of the Town Jetty) by student representatives from all three high schools, Mayor Diana Mislov and Rotary Club of Port Lincoln Youth Director, Robyn Rowsell.
The Peace Pole program began in 1955 after the Second World War and was developed by World Peace Prayer Society Founder, Masahisa Goi. Today, there are more than 300,000 Peace Poles standing in more than 200 countries around the globe, symbolising a common wish for a world at peace.
Standing proudly in the recently developed Port Lincoln Foreshore Precinct, the new Peace Pole declares “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four languages – English, Barngarla, Croatian and Japanese. During Friday’s ceremony, Prapti delivered the accompanying proclamation in English, Rhy in Japanese and Sophie in French.
The students were congratulated for their well-delivered translations and their positive engagement in the ceremony.
