Crew Completes Gruelling Operation Flinders Camp

Across Weeks 8 and 9 of Term 2, a crew of nine Port Lincoln High School students took part in the Operation Flinders program, an inspiring and challenging eight-day bushwalking expedition through the spectacular Flinders Ranges.

The Operation Flinders Foundation is dedicated to transforming the lives of young South Australians aged 13–18 through adventure-based learning. Based at Yankaninna Station in the northern Flinders Ranges, the program challenges participants to trek up to 100 kilometres, experience abseiling, learn bushcraft and Aboriginal cultural knowledge, and develop resilience, leadership and self-confidence.

Representing PLHS this year were Shane Coaby, Jayce Peel, Terry Peel, Levi Fowler, Cy-Jett Davison, Jahliel Kelly, Lachlan Eades, Willis Trott and Blake Dunnett. They were supported throughout the journey by teacher Mr. David Kenny and ASETO Mr. Alan “CJ” Dodd.

Throughout the expedition, the students stepped well outside their comfort zones. They built their own shelters under the stars, prepared and cooked their own meals, completed challenging hikes, embraced the abseiling experience, gained valuable SACE credits, and demonstrated outstanding perseverance and crew spirit.

Our Operation Flinders Team Leader also highly commended the boys on their outstanding participation, positive attitude, teamwork and engagement throughout the entire eight-day expedition.

Congratulations to all the students on this incredible achievement. You represented yourselves, your families and Port Lincoln High School with pride, demonstrating resilience, respect and leadership every step of the way. We are incredibly proud of what you accomplished. Palya!
