Brody Proudly Shares Painting with Family

This acrylic on canvas painting was produced by Year 9 student, Brody Dunnett (pictured) as part of his Semester 1 Visual Arts studies with Ms. Wanda Jarvis.

The initial theme focussed on identity and Brody developed his ideas through discussion, research and experimentation to create a final design for painting. His finished piece was recently displayed in our PLHS mid-year exhibition in the Nautilus Arts Centre’s Rotary Gallery.

Last week, a very proud and excited Brody was finally able to take his wonderful work home and present it to his delighted family; he also shared his accompanying practitioner’s statement (copy below), which thoughtfully explains Brody’s artistic thinking and decision-making.

PRACTITIONER’S STATEMENT:

“My name is Brody Dunnett and I’m Kokatha, Mirning, Wirangu man living in Port Lincoln.

The main focus of my artwork is about me and my family. We have lived in Ceduna back and forth. I used the colours pink, blue, green, yellow, dark and light blue.

Mallee Park colours are green and yellow and represent my football team plus the yellow stands for my one sister and three brothers.

Two hands are for my grandparents who mean a lot to me. The pink symbolises my grandmother and the blue stands for my grandfather.

The pink circle stands for my mother and the blue stands for me. I chose blue for me because I like blue as I connect to the ocean.

Overall, my artwork links to family.”
