Madonna Wins TAFE SA Aquaculture Award

Earlier today, TAFE SA Aquaculture Lecturer Mr Brent Smith sent the following message to PLHS Principal Mr Todd George…

Todd,

I just thought I’d forward this aquaculture good news story…

(Port Lincoln High School Year 11 student) Madonna Crossman was recently awarded the Playford Trust TAFE SA Award during a ceremony at the Urrbrae Campus on Thursday night.

Here’s a link to the Playford Trust page if you want to find out more about the award: https://playfordtrust.com.au/project/tafe-sa-test-split-page/

The Playford Trust provides up to five awards of $2,000 each for TAFE SA students undertaking a Certificate ll, lll or Diploma in the following areas: Horticulture, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Conservation and Land Management, Mining and Exploration, Spatial Information and Surveying and Food Technology. These awards aim to assist students in their future studies. As you can imagine, there are a large number of students over these areas of study, so it is quite an honour to win the award.

Talking to members of the selection panel, I think that being very close to completing three full vocational qualifications whilst still at school full-time, spoke very strongly to them. The fact that Madonna has a strong plan for her future and aims to go on to complete undergraduate studies in the field with a focus on contributing to the sustainability of the industry locally, further strengthened her application.

I thought I’d share this as she was the only student in high school to win an award and, in fact, some of the recipients had already completed undergraduate degrees prior to studying at TAFE SA.

So, congratulations to Madonna and we wish her all the best in completing Year 12 and the final diploma units.

Best regards,

Brent Smith | Aquaculture Lecturer
