Introducing Sofia from Italy & Ana from Spain

Above: Italian Sofia Roveri (front left) and Spaniard Ana Vidal Marti (front right) with their new “Aussie mates” (back L-R) Paola Alejos Padilla, Anastasia Scholz and Jesika Cane.

Our two new international students were recently asked to tell us a little bit about themselves and their early impressions of their new country, city, home and school. Here is what they had to say…

Sofia Roveri (Italy)

What can you tell us about your home and family back in Italy?

My family is composed of seven people; my mother, father, three sisters and one brother. I love the place where I live, because Rome is a wonderful city.

What are your first impressions of Australia/Port Lincoln?

My first impression is that Australia is a clean and tidy country. Port Lincoln has great views and very welcoming people.

What can you tell us about host family/home?

My host family is composed of two people, Tony and Katherine. They are lovely people and their home is so beautiful with wonderful views.

What do you like to do in your spare time? (hobbies, sports, foods, places etc.)

In my spare time usually I like reading books, watching TV series, running, eating good food and playing the piano.

What are your thoughts on the school thus far? (favourite subjects, friends etc.)

I think that this school is in a lovely and quite place. People are kind and there is not as much pressure as in my high school in Italy. Guys are more opened. I like these kind of subjects. They are totally different from mine.

What interesting things you have eaten/drunk since you have been here?

I have eaten oysters with bacon which I hadn’t ever eaten before.

What do you want to do/see while you are in Australia?

I want to see all the “strange” animals that aren’t in my country, like koalas and kangaroos. I want to see funny and interesting things.

Ana Vidal (Spain)

What can you tell us about your home and family back in Spain?

I live in Valencia, a nice, big city in the southeast of Spain near the sea, with my mother and my big sister Maria. I also study in a French school.

What are your first impressions of Australia/Port Lincoln?

Port Lincoln is a little city but with awesome views. Also, I went to Sydney with the Spanish group, and I loved it.

What can you tell us about host family/home?

Katherine and Tony, my host family, are very nice people. They have hosted me very well, and I’m very happy to spend these months with them.

What do you like to do in your spare time? (hobbies, sports, foods, places etc.)

In my spare time I like to go out with my friends and go to the cinema. I also love to travel and to know new places.

What are your thoughts on the school thus far? (favourite subjects, friends etc.)..

I study Aquaculture in the school and it’s a very interesting and different subject. In Aquaculture, we met another international student, Paola, and we also met Ana and Jess; they are really nice.

What interesting things you have eaten/drunk since you have been here?

The other day I tried oysters with my host family, a typical seafood from Port Lincoln. I was really impressed because I liked it.

What do you want to do/see while you are in Australia?

I want to visit nice places and I really want to see kangaroos and koalas because we don’t have these type of animals in Spain.
