Term 2 finished with “COLLECTIVE”, this year’s student Dance Production at the Nautilus Theatre –again, the performances were delivered as an uplifting, inspiring and professional dance and musical production. The up-tempo musicianship of the band set the tone for an engaging collective of crafted choreography and powerful messaging. The students looked, danced, and sounded superb and truly “hooked” the audience.
Term 3 has begun with a similar buzz as preparations for the school’s centenary celebrations really gear up…
The Centenary Pavers are selling well. The purchase of a $50 engraved paver provides an enduring record of the connection that people, businesses and community organisations have had with Port Lincoln High School. The first order for these closes soon, so please don’t miss out – order now to ensure that your family and friends are represented.
Tickets for the Centenary Showcase (Friday night concert – Sept 29) and Centenary Celebration (Sunday night function – Oct 1) are also on the move. These special occasions provide an opportunity to acknowledge the school’s importance to youth and community in a relaxed and enjoyable way with family, friends and colleagues spanning the decades.
Did you know that the Port Lincoln History Group has digitised the 100 years of history, life and times of the school? This mammoth task has provided a readily accessible treasure trove of events, people and developments. The school now has a huge folio of digital photographs which will be available for viewing during the Guided School Tours and our centenary celebrations.
A taste of this fabulous resource will be on screen at the PLHS section of the upcoming Port Lincoln Show (Sunday August 13th), along with live performances from the school band and displays of historical artefacts (e.g. old school uniforms) – patrons will get a real taste of what is to come during the celebration long weekend.
Where Are They Now? / PLHS Hall of Fame – the school’s Centenary Planning Committee is seeking nominations for the first inductees into our Hall of Fame; we are also keen to find out where our former students and staff members have ended up – please send your nominations/details to PLHS via email (dl.0791_info@schools.sa.edu.au).
The school will engage our current students in the fun and celebrations on the last day of this term (Friday September 29th) – many activities are already in the pipeline (dress-up theme, BBQ lunch, games/competitions, special guests etc.), with the day culminating in a Staff versus Student Football Match on the Main Oval. Stay tuned for further details.
Please keep your finger on the pulse by following the school’s website (www.plhs.sa.edu.au/plhs100/) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PortLincolnHighSchool/) and get involved with what will be a great weekend of celebrations in late September/early October; hopefully, a South Aussie AFL footy team will be making a grand final appearance!
Cheers,
Brian Gabb & the PLHS Governing Council
