As part of this term’s Sustainable Seafood unit, our Year 10 Food Technology students readily engaged in a recent opportunity to work in the Aquaculture Centre with Mr Chris McGown. This integrated learning experience allowed the students to see firsthand the fishing process from “sea to plate”, therefore deepening their understanding of the sustainability of seafood species.
Students learned about the breeding, hatching and culturing of fish and were involved in the process of weighing, scaling and filleting fish ready to be baked in the school’s kitchen. It was fantastic to witness students becoming more aware of how food arrives on our plates.
