Eye-Opening Expedition for Senior Art/Design Crew

Our senior Visual Arts classes were invited to join us in Adelaide last Thursday and Friday for the annual Year 12 Art/Design Trip. Once again, the participating students were exposed to a wide variety of eye-opening and thought-provoking creations.

The itinerary on the first morning saw both classes visit CDW Studios (visual effects school), the 2026 SACE Art Show (Stage 2 art/design showcase exhibition) and the Jam Factory (art/craft/design centre). In the afternoon, the Art students spent time at the Art Gallery of South Australia, while the Design class visited KS Design (graphics studio), Bang & Olufsen (hi-tech electronics).

On Friday, the Art class was taken on a walking tour of public art in the city of Adelaide, including the Chihuly sculptures in the Botanic Gardens, before heading back to AGSA for a workshop and guided tour of “Yield Strength”, the 2026 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art exhibition. Meanwhile, the Design students toured Adelaide University’s Campus – West (tertiary design/photography/architecture courses), the SAHMRI Building and SODA Objects (eclectic furniture showroom), before rejoining their peers at AGSA; there they viewed the collection highlights, including the priceless LC1 chaise.

It is hoped that exposure to this array of contemporary art/design experiences will provide our students with inspiration for their remaining projects, and a greater understanding of related tertiary and career options.

Congratulations to this year’s students – they were well organised, engaged and enthusiastic throughout. Many thanks also to their parents for their positive support of this valuable initiative.
