In November 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence (the Honourable Richard Marles MP) and the Premier of South Australia (the Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP) jointly released the South Australian Defence Industry Workforce and Skills Report and Action Plan. The Plan contains several initiatives, designed in partnership with industry to have immediate and sustained impact, catering to current workforce demands and projected future needs.
PLHS is proud to be one of the designated ‘defence schools’, with a focus on electrotechnology. Accordingly, we are currently hosting a Certificate II in Electrotechnology course, delivered by TAFE SA in a new on-site purpose-built facility. Three PLHS students are already enrolled – pictured here are (L-R) James Hore (Year 11), Jevan Ambrose (Year 12) and Kaden Abbott (Year 11).
This initiative aims to increase enrolments into defence-related pathways by at least 300 within the first two years of programs being established. Across South Australia, we are one of nine regional schools that aim to provide country students with an understanding of the breadth of opportunities, both within our local community and beyond.
