Three of our Year 8 students and Concert Band members – Diezel Pitt, Kiarna Letton and Jasmine Tiller – recently travelled to Adelaide to participate in the 2022 South Australian Music Camp. This highly popular event, which is celebrating its 60th year of educating young South Australian musicians, was successfully staged at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
Diezel, Kiarna and Jasmine earned their place at this year’s camp after successfully completing an application and audition process. One other PLHS student – Seth Kayser (Year 10) – was also successful but was unable to attend to due to prior family commitments. The SA Music Camp offers young orchestral musicians a structured opportunity to grow musically. The program is designed for students to gain ensemble playing experience and self-confidence, while making new friends and developing their instrumental skills. Diezel, Kiarna and Jasmine spent an enjoyable and rewarding week in Adelaide, playing and rehearsing at the University of Adelaide and performing at the end of the week.
In what has been a busy period for the members of our Concert Band, they also received a grant and award from Sing Australia in Port Lincoln, who donated $1,200 towards the students and their musical instruments and equipment. Additionally, several students have been playing in the Port Lincoln City Band and recently at the annual F.A.M.E. Awards.
Outside of these events, the students have been working hard to start busking and performing around town; we are hoping to start this weekend outside of Lincoln South Butchers (Shepherd Avenue) from 11am, then onto Coles from around 12:30pm. Hope to see you there!
