“Chief” Receives Prestigious Australia Day Honour

Port Lincoln High School congratulates former student, The Honourable Chief Justice Chris Kourakis, on earlier this week being made a Companion of the Order of Australia in this year’s Australia Day Honours. Chief Justice Kourakis AC was honoured for his service to the judiciary, to the law and to legal reform, to social justice and gender equity, to the Greek community, and to education.

Following a long and distinguished career in law – including as the state’s Solicitor-General from 2003–08, before being appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court – His Honour announced his resignation as Chief Justice last month; his last day in office is set for February 19th.

As one of our school’s most esteemed graduates (from the Class of 1975), “Chief” is also the Patron of our recently re-launched PLHS Old Scholars’ Association. We greatly look forward to congratulating Chris in person when he makes his first post-retirement trip back to Port Lincoln.
