This term in Dharna Crew, our 8.01 class has focussed on the dispositions of empathy and community-mindedness through the concept of supporting a charity.
Students researched a range of charities such as the Red Cross, Fred’s Van, Ronald McDonald House and the RSPCA, and investigated how these charities help to make our community a better place.
After careful consideration, the students decided collaboratively to support the RSPCA; as they all had a love for animals and wanted to support their wonderful work in preventing animal cruelty.
In order to raise funds in support of the RSPCA, the students baked and decorated cookies to sell. After a morning barbecue-cooking lesson with Mr. Thomas and his Crew, they also cooked a sausage sizzle at lunchtime. The event was very successful, and the students were proud to raise $180 which will be donated to support the work of the RSPCA.
Thank you to the staff and students who supported our fundraiser, and also to Coles Supermarket who donated goods for the sausage sizzle.
Through completing this activity, our students have developed a wide range of capabilities such as how to ethically conduct and promote fundraising activities and a stronger understanding of what it means to work together as CREW.
